Black Forest Software is a Malaysian software engineering team focused on factory automation — Industry 4.0 platforms, workflow systems, AI tools, and custom software for small and medium manufacturers. We like building real systems for real businesses, and we like doing it with the people who run them.
We're a small software engineering studio based in Malaysia, focused on factory automation. Our purpose is simple: help SMB manufacturers bring Industry 4.0, workflow automation, and AI into their factory — without the enterprise price tag and without the enterprise politics.
We use modern AI tooling extensively — inside the products we ship and inside our own workshop. Not as a marketing badge, but because it's how we deliver SMB-sized projects in weeks instead of quarters.
The person who takes your first call is the same person shipping your code. No salespeople, no account managers, no handoffs. If your factory has a problem, the team solving it is the team you already know.
We stay small on purpose. It lets us work closely with a few clients at a time instead of spreading thin across many. That's how we build systems that actually fit.
Malaysia has thousands of small and medium manufacturers doing real work — food, automotive parts, packaging, furniture, you name it. Most of them have outgrown their spreadsheets, but they've looked at enterprise Industry 4.0 vendors and walked away. The price tags, the complexity, the consultant armies — none of it fits an SME.
That gap is our favourite place to work. Industry 4.0 and automation shouldn't be just for the big players. The moment you put a live dashboard in front of a family-run factory owner, you see the business click into a different gear.
We want to be the partner those factories actually deserve.
Start small. We scope every project down to the one thing that matters most right now — a single line, a single process, a single frustrating workflow — and prove it works before we propose the next step.
Move together. Short weekly check-ins. Working software in your hands early, not after six months. Your team involved, because they know what's actually broken.
Stay long. A launch is chapter one. We stick around for the next chapters — new modules, new integrations, new mobile apps — as your factory grows into it.
A small team that uses AI well can outrun a big team that doesn't. That's the maths behind why we can serve SMB factories at prices enterprise vendors can't match.
We use machine learning, LLMs, and AI-assisted engineering throughout our process — inside the products we ship (forecasting, anomaly detection, AI employees) and inside our own workshop (code review, design exploration, faster prototyping).
Marketing websites. Generic CRMs. Chatbot demos. We respect those disciplines — we just aren't the right team for them.
If we're not a good fit for what you need, we'll tell you on the first call, and we'll usually point you to someone who is.

Are you a one-person shop or a team?
Small team, on purpose. Engineers who own the work end-to-end. The person on your discovery call is the same person shipping your code. We add capacity through close partnerships rather than scaling staff headcount.
Can you do on-site visits?
Yes — Klang Valley factories regularly, Peninsular MY for kickoff and major milestones, East MY remote with periodic on-site visits.
What sectors have you actually shipped to?
Anonymized: Malaysian food & beverage manufacturing (Industry 4.0 + ML demand forecasting), automotive parts distribution (custom platform + Android apps for hub staff). Industry-agnostic in principle — what we look for is SMBs that have outgrown spreadsheets.
What if our project doesn't fit you?
We'll tell you on the first call. We won't take projects we can't ship well — better for both of us. We'll usually point you to someone we trust who's a better fit.
